With the warmer weather continuing, many of us are enjoying time outdoors, opening windows to keep cool and spending more time in our gardens. Unfortunately, burglars can take advantage of these opportunities.

Here are some simple steps you can take to keep your home secure:

 Always lock doors and accessible windows when leaving your home, even for a short time.

 Ensure all windows and doors are secured before going to bed.

 Keep keys, wallets and other valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.

 Keep fences, gates and sheds secure, and don't leave valuable items on display in your garden.

 If you're away, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and remove any deliveries from your doorstep.

 Use timer switches or smart lighting to make your home appear occupied when you're out.
